Carol Thomson, partner and co-founder
Carol has worked in communications as both a
planner and implementer. She is especially known for her analytical
capability, which has contributed to her work for such clients as the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jefferson Health System-Main Line, The
Annie E. Casey Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and the University of
Georgia. She led the team that organized an event at the White House and
won national media coverage as part of a Father's Day campaign for the
Funders Collaborative on Fathers and Families. She develops
institution-wide communications plans and audits, as well as specific
publications and publicity campaigns and has relationships with clients
that span many years.
Before joining with Michele Steege to form Steege/Thomson
Communications, Carol was director of communications and public affairs for
Public/Private Ventures, a policy research organization. Previously, she
was senior staff writer in the development office at the University of
Pennsylvania. She received her A.B. cum laude and her master of arts in
teaching from Brown University.

Patricia LePera, senior vice president
Patricia has more than 20 years'
experience in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, and
organizational development. She has developed and implemented integrated
marketing communications plans, including recommendations on staff
structure. She brings an established track record in consensus-building,
working with volunteer boards and management. In addition to helping
clients think strategically, Patricia also provides creative direction,
offers strong writing skills, and has managed many Web site design
projects.
She has led Steege/Thomson's work with the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Library, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Ithaca College, and Washington National Cathedral. She has played a key role in services to the University of Pennsylvania, the American Friends Service Committee, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
Before joining Steege/Thomson, Patricia directed the marketing and communications
program at the American Cancer Society in Pennsylvania. She has a B.A. from
Temple University and a master's of science from Drexel University.
Patricia has also led national training seminars in nonprofit marketing.

Betsy Parkins, media relations director
Betsy brings more than 15 years of
marketing, public relations and communications management
to our clients. With wide experience in both
the nonprofit and for-profit arenas, Betsy focuses on
helping organizations design strategic, integrated
communications programs. At Steege/Thomson, Betsy leads
media relations efforts on behalf of ECRI Institute, the
Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Japan America Society of
Greater Philadelphia. She also provides media support to
clients that include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
and Philadelphia’s Peirce College.
Before joining Steege/Thomson, Betsy
served as senior development officer for Medical Missions
for Children, an international nonprofit organization, and
directed regional media outreach for several arts
organizations with The Packett Group in Roanoke, VA. She
also managed national media relations programs for a
variety of information technology clients at O’Keeffe
& Company in Broomall, PA. Betsy holds a B.A. in
Journalism from Washington & Lee University and an
M.S. in Communications Management from Syracuse University

Togo Travalia, account executive
Togo has brought his communications skills to nonprofit organizations throughout his career. Following a decade as assistant to the president and CEO of the national nonprofit, Educating Children for Parenting, Togo served as a communications consultant, supporting clients as a technical writer and editor, designer, fundraiser and project manager. His first calling as a classroom teacher has consistently infused his work.
Togo has served Steege/Thomson clients such as the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Penn Medicine, the Smithsonian Institution, and Women's Law Project, among others. Togo earned his BA from Swarthmore College, where he graduated with high honors.

Jill Wacker, vice president
Jill offers clients
more than a decade of experience in marketing as well as
strong market research and communications planning skills.
At Steege/Thomson, she has created communications and
marketing plans for the Shipley School, the Rosenbach
Museum & Library, and Chemical Heritage Foundation.
She has developed campaign case statements for Bradley
University, Indiana State University, Chicago’s Goodman
Theatre, and the Kennedy Krieger Institute, admissions
materials for Staten Island Academy, and a web site for
Steege/Thomson partner Campbell & Company.
Jill is currently supervising development of a campaign video for the University of Pennsylvania and implementing a plan
she created for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s
pediatric asthma initiatives. Before coming to Steege/Thomson, Jill
worked for a healthcare communications company, overseeing
marketing and educational programs for major
pharmaceutical companies. Jill holds a bachelor’s degree
from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in English from the
University of Pennsylvania.

Kimberly Silverman, production manager
Kim is an
experienced graphic designer and brings strong skills in project
management to Steege/Thomson’s production work. Kim has five years
of freelance and corporate experience in graphic design and
production, including both print and multimedia work. Her
advanced computer skills and creative talents have helped her
serve clients ranging from top pharmaceutical and Fortune 500
companies to small professional organizations. While working for
a medical communications company, Kim won several Graphic
Design USA awards for her work on both promotional and
educational print, and her multiple sclerosis medial
illustration was submitted for publication in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Kim holds a B.A. from the University of
Richmond.

Angela Wilson and Kate Leuschke, administrative staff
Angela Wilson, senior administrative
assistant, and Kate Leuschke, administrative
assistant, are our first line of service as the people who most frequently
